Business Property Tax Relief

Governor Abbott signed H.B. 9 this week which increases the business personal property tax exemption beginning with the 2026 tax year.

The 89th Legislature adopted sweeping property tax cuts which include an increase in the exemption for business personal property.  If approved by the voters in November, the business personal property tax exemption will increase from $2,500 to $125,000.  This exemption would apply to ALL taxing entities -- cities, counties, school districts and special purpose districts.
