Lien Notice Deadlines Clarified

Governor Abbott signed S.B. 929 into effect on May 21, 2025.  This legislation clarifies that lien notice deadlines that fall on a weekend or holiday are pushed to the next business day.

Prior to the passage of S.B. 929, an owner or other party could have argued that notice deadlines that fall on a specified date (e.g. 15th day of the third month) were not pushed to the next business day because determining the deadline did not involve "computing the period of days" (e.g. 30 days following filing).  This was an inadvertent mistake made by the drafters in 2021 when the Legislature adopted H.B. 2237, the lien law overhaul bill.
